Introduction

This article describes model import into NeoAxis by means of the COLLADA intermediate format COLLADA. Exporting to this format is supported by most modelling packages. This article also describes model export into COLLADA in most popular modelling packages. For more information on importing COLLADA files into NeoAxis read Overview of Model Import Editor.

We also recommend that you use NeoAxis Engine Exporter for importing models from Autodesk 3dsMax and Autodesk Maya. These dedicated exporters are considered primary import methods. Here you can learn more about exportin models from 3dsMax and Maya.

Exporting models from Blender

In this section you will learn how to export models from Blender into COLLADA format.

To do this, select Export -> COLLADA (.dae) in the File menu.

Now, specify a path to the Data folder of you project and press the Export COLLADA button.

Exporting models from Autodesk Softimage

In this section you will learn how to export models from Autodesk Softimage into COLLADA format.

First, select a mesh you want to export in the working window of the application.

Now, select the Crosswalk option in the File menu and press the Export button.

 Note: We recommend that you do not use the default exporter (available through File -> Export) as it does not write all required parameters to the resulting file.

Specify a file type in the window that will appear: "Collada 1.4.1". Then, press the "..." button, in order to specify a path to the Data folder of your project and a name for the new file.

Now, proceed to the Settings tab and tick the following boxes:

  • Selection Only,
  • Materials,
  • Export XSI Normals.

After having specified al data, you may press the Export button to start the export process.

Autodesk Softimage has completed expoting your model into COLLADA file format. To learn about importing COLLADA files into NeoAxis read Overview of Model Import Editor.

Exporting models from Autodesk 3dsMax

We recommend that you use the dedicated exporter for model export from Autodesk 3dsMax. You can learn more from Export models from Autodesk 3ds Max article.

However, you can also import a 3dsMax model into NeoAxis using the COLLADA format.

First, select File -> Export in the main menu.

Now, specify a path to the Data folder of your project, a name for the new file, and the file format - COLLADA.

To start exporting, press OK.

3dsMax has completed exporting your model into COLLADA.

Exporting models Autodesk Maya

We recommend that you use the dedicated exporter for model export from Autodesk Maya. You can learn more from Export models from Autodesk Maya article.

However, you can also import a Maya model into NeoAxis using the COLLADA format.

First, select File -> Export All in the main menu.

Now, specify a path to the Data folder of your project, a name for the new file, and the file format - DAE_FBX. Press the Export All button.

Maya has completed exporting your model into COLLADA.
